| Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry http://www.wtail.org.uk/WBMDR.htm The Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry is a panel of blood donors who have volunteered to have the white cells in their blood "tissue typed". The panel is searched every day to try and find donors whose tissue type is a close match to patients who need life saving bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cell transplants. Bone marrow is where blood cells are formed. Healthy people have a reserve of marrow which is constantly being renewed but patients with some blood disorders don't have these reserves. Sometimes the only treatment is a transplant of healthy bone marrow or stem cells from a well-matched donor. | World Marrow Donor Association http://www.worldmarrow.org WMDA (World Marrow Donor Association) is a voluntary organisation of representatives of blood stem cell donor registries, cord blood banks, other organisations and individuals, with an interest in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. It provides a forum for mutual discussion of all issues regarding the clinical use of hematopoietic stem cells from unrelated donors across international boundaries.
